Home Made Gelato in Rome

Updated: Nov 10, 2022

Josh and I have been living it up in Rome. We have filled our time with class after class, making tagliatelle, tortellini, ravioli, gnocchi, and now gelato. Most of our classes have no photos because we have been up to our eyeballs in new, Italian recipes, passed on from generation to generation. I wouldn't be surprised if the first generation was akin to the gods.

Perched above the city, we drank wine, mixed gelato and watched the sun sink below the patchwork of Roman rooftops.

Paula, my new life-idol, has never lived in one city longer than 10 years. Starting in Poland, she moved to Connecticut, then Paris, London and New York. She lived in New York for 10 years, started to panic about being in one place for too long, so moved to Rome. Full of vibrant fashion, rich food, historical architecture and some of the best gelato in the world!

The tick and click of vintage records swirled around us as we waited for our stracciatella to set. Gooey chocolate snapped into irregular shards, as they hardened and churned. The milky liquid quickly became spoonfuls of happiness and we found ourselves going back for seconds and thirds.

Incase you don't know the difference between gelato and ice-cream, gelato is made of mostly milk, with some cream where as ice-cream is all cream. Armed with this knowledge, we have made the choice to eat gelato from now on... for our health.

With anxiety about leaving this gelato,

Travellers Tips:

- You can do this experience yourself on Airbnb for just $60Aud (in October 2018)

- The nicest part of Rome we've found is near Paula's apartment, you can look up Parco Adriano. It's a star shaped park with a big castle. Just across the bridge (away from the Vatican city) is a really nice old part of Rome.
